At Home With Miriam Alia, the Interior Designer who redefines colourful living

If you attended the Red Magazine Colour Masterclass last August, where I was on the panel with Joa Studholme from Farrow & Ball and Erica Davies from The Edited sharing our knowledge and experiences of colourful interiors, you may know that I am totally obsessed with the Spanish interior designer Miriam Alia and her equally talented sister Nuria Alia.

Both designers playfully use colour and pattern in their work and create breathtaking and stunning designs for their clients.

In this post, I will introduce you to Miriam Alia’s work and her beautifully decorated home.

Miriam Alia’s career is a constant quest to find beauty, focusing on the small details that together create a unique composition, as can be seen in her Madrid apartment, which is infused with light. She created a feminine, yet slick atmosphere with the use of pastel tones, combined with statement art pieces and antiques mixed with the modern and simple furniture.

And what better words to sum up her apartment than this beautiful quote by Miriam herself: “This is a small window that will bring you closer to my world, where magic resides in light and colour, to get joyful spaces that produce feelings and do not leave you indifferent. These are the two fundamental pillars of my work on which I build the rest of the elements.”

She works by the rule, ‘there are no rules’, colour, prints and different materials and present, but never overrule or fight.

In summary, her apartment is a perfect example of our motto here at Eva Sonaike ‘BRINING COLOUR TO LIFE’. Miriam Alia’s apartment represents everything that she loves and feels and she uses colour bravely, which inspires and excites me, as it is so important in our hectic lives to create a home that reflects you to the core and tells your unique story.
