Contemporary Design Africa

Contemporary Design Africa

The wait is finally over and we at Eva Sonaike are proud to announce that our brand is featured in Thames and Hudson latest book CONTEMPORARY DESIGN AFRICA by Tapiwa Matsinde. Tapiwa Matsinde is a British/Zimbabwean designer, creative, consultant and the writer, of the popular design and lifestyle blog Atelier Fifty-Five. I met her a few years ago at a trade-show in London, when she mentioned her idea for a book about African contemporary design. And two years later… ‘Packed with irresistibly stylish, original and covetable work that will be a delight to all fans of contemporary design’, Thames & Hudson. … The book is here! Well done Tapiwa! "Contemporary Design Africa offers a refreshing challenge to rigid perceptions of what African design looks like. Focusing primarily on interior decoration, the book presents fifty designers, artisans, and cooperatives based on the continent or part of the diaspora who are creating sophisticated and innovative products and interiors. An introductory section surveys the history, vitality, and diversity in African design, followed by profiles of contemporary designers grouped by craft, from textiles, ceramics, and basketry to furniture, lighting, and beyond. Complete with references for sourcing African products, as well as a glossary and bibliography, Contemporary Design Africa reveals the rich possibilities being explored by a new generation of African creator.” Well done Tapiwa. If you are interested in what is going on on the continent’s and Diaspora’s design scene, make sure you get your own copy on Amazon. Or head over the Atelier-Fifty Five, Tapiwa’s blog, for inspiring interiors, fashion, lifestyle and travel from African designers and businesses.
