The Aburi Rise Collection by Eva Sonaike

The Aburi Rise Collection by Eva Sonaike

We are proud to announce the launch of our latest collection, Aburi Rise! Sometimes you have to go back to basics… In our case maybe not basics, but to our most vibrant, intricate and colourful collection, that boldly shows my passion and dedication as a designer.

The Aburi Rise collection is an extension of our popular Aburi collection from 2011, with a fresh vibe and colourful palette of lush greens, soft copper, deep purples and rich blues, capturing the calm and tropical feel of the Aburi botanical gardens in Ghana.

Let me tell you a little more about the products, story and my inspiration for Aburi Rise.

THE DESIGNS

There are eight designs available in Aburi Rise, consisting of the signature ‘Aburi’ design that heads the collection with our palm tree set against a warm copper batik background; then there is ‘Okan’ with a lilac flower petal on a dark purple, dotted background; the striking ‘Ona’ with its maze-shaped design inspired by Yoruba embroidery in dark grey and powdery pink on a refreshing, light grey batik background. The ‘Ijoba’ design, which fits in perfectly with the botanical trend with its three-tone green circular design with soft pink highlights, and ‘Wewe’, my favourite this season, with a denim blue banana leaf design, that evokes the tropical spirit.

Alongside our five prints above, we also added a new collection of plain ‘neutrals batiks’ this season that correspond with the unique designs and also work well as stand-alone pieces: a warm copper batik print, corresponding with the Aburi design, a soft grey batik print, corresponding with Ona and a denim blue batik print, as in the Wewe print, which all feature plain batik designs.

THE COLLECTION

Aburi Rise with its batik-inspired patterns and bold colours has been translated into a variety of high-end products including our soft signature style cushions with velvet backing, the comfortable pouffes, that are great as additional seating or footstools, the vibrant lampshades with mirrored copper lining, and the make-up bags that are perfect for your lotions and potions.

And for interior design projects, we have our Half Panama and Twill fabrics, as well as the waterproof outdoor fabrics that are all suitable for upholstery and contract use. Email us on if you are an interior designer and would like to order free samples.

And to finish it all off, we added a new collection of super-luxury handwoven rugs, which are hand-knotted in Nepal by adult artisans in collaboration with Goodweave and add a beautiful variety of carefully crafted textures and colours that will bring balance and timeless style to any space.

THE STORY

I was on holiday in Ghana on 2010 and organised a day trip with my husband and kids to visit Aburi gardens. As soon as we arrived I was hooked! Imagine a foggy and mild day in a rainforest back in 1960. The slightly dilapidated buildings and the lush scenery spoke to me in a way that is difficult to explain.

Overlooking the Accra coastal plain from high above sea level, the beauty and uniqueness of this botanical garden and its mild climate and lush scenic setting, made it clear to me that I had to dedicate my collection to this place. The mixture of indigenous and exotic plants are reflected in this collection.

Known for our bold colour combinations and signature batik style patterns, we are trying to stay true to our concept of ‘Bringing Colour to Life’ with Aburi Rise, celebrating a luxury African way of life, that perfectly complements modern contemporary living.
