Spring Greens

With the snow finally gone and the big freeze being over, I am now officially ready for spring. I even moved my chair closer to the window in my office this morning, in order to expose myself to the first rays of pre-spring sunshine this year. Wonderful!

As London Fashion Week is approaching (yes, it starts on Friday) and I am editing through my best outfits to wear at the shows, I thought it might be nice to have a look at fashion and accessories this week. Of course all in line with our colour of the month: Long Meadow.

When choosing green garments and accessories don’t forget: less is more. You don’t want to end up looking like Kermit the Frog ( ‘It’s not easy being green’).

It’s Not Easy Being Green

This is so true! We have been researching green interiors for month and despite its freshness, elegance and calmness, it is not the most popular colour when it comes to interior design or wall paint. But not to worry, we have some amazing images for your idea books. But in the meantime, let me share this cute video, by Kermit the Frog, one of my childhood favorites, with you. I am sure it will put a smile on your face.

February: Long Meadow

This lovely green colour, Long Meadow, our colour for February, gets me all excited and ready for spring.

Long Meadow is actually a children’s room paint, by the US paint company Dutch Boy, that I came across when researching non-toxic paints for my children’s rooms. The refreshing, but warm undertones send my mind to enchanting, tranquil English gardens, gusty costal fronts with beach huts and mint choc chip ice cream.

But Long Meadow green isn’t just for kid’s rooms, its complexity has a natural charm that suits a range of moods and personalities.
It can work perfectly in the home when accompanied by the right accents. Adding pastel yellows and pinks give a retro look. Try adding black, which were the favored colours during the Art Deco period.
Green walls can be a little overwhelming for some, but accented with neutral furniture provides a nice and relaxing harmony and using it to accessories a room can create a peaceful yet sophisticated atmosphere.

And Long Meadow accessories are so easily incorporated into any spring wardrobe, as they go with so many colours and textures. Shoes, bags, belts and of course jewellery in green are great accent pieces. And for the colour junkies (like me) who love wearing green dresses, like the beautiful Diane von Furstenberg ‘Blaire’ dress in our mood-board, just tone down the rest of your outfit and combine it with simple jewellery and a statement bag.

Generally, green represents living, nature and safety and is linked to our senses. It has a relaxing effect on people’s moods, creating balance, peace and harmony.
So why not embrace this calming, tranquil colour and let a little bit of life into our lives. We will keep you posted with many Long Meadow ideas and inspiration throughout the month of February.

The Saguaro

Cast your mind away from the January blues and into the The Saguaro hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona.

We love its bright and beautiful backdrop of rainbow colours, which erase any dull and dreary thoughts. The pomegranate-pink, fiery-orange and lime-green walls are only a few of the 12 brilliant colours, inspired by Arizona’s local desert flowers. Amongst the desert and the town’s choice of dusty beige and sandy colours is quite a bold statement, but makes for a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Adorned with contemporary furnishings made from natural materials such as wood and leather that enhance this visual spectrum, creating a comfortable ‘home from home’ quality.

A big well done to Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat of Stamberg Aferiat Architecture, a team, known for their bold use of color, for having sheer imagination and creating this haven of colour and awe inspiring design.

The Love Seat

The Love Seat, traditionally made in the late 17th and 18th century to seat one woman and her large dress, has evolved into something of a style item. The Victorians popularised these seat by using it as an excuse to utter sweet nothings to one another. Just an excuse to perch close, but not too close.

The Love Seat is still a strong symbol of love and romance, which can bring a sense of charm to any living room, veranda or hallway

This stunning Swivel Tub Shaped Love Seat is from Talisman covered in a beautiful Florida pink velvet gives the chair a very inviting plush feel. The perfect invitation to curl up with a good book in style and immerse yourself in the calming effects of the colour pink.
